We know you dream of being dressed for your premiere by a big-name designer, even though you’d hardly know who you’re wearing without a publicist whispering “Vintage Chanel” in your ear every time an ET talking head thrusts a mic your way with that “Who are you wearing” question. (Kidding! You totally have a unique sense of style, and Rick Campanelli is deeper than he looks.)
The thing is, we’ve got lots of great designers in Toronto, too. Our Fashion Week offers a parade of red-carpet looks. Unfortunately, our social calendars are more cocktails and keggers than fancy formal, so most of those gowns are getting dusty in designer studios waiting for you to call.
But you hardly ever call. I mean, we know you would never pick up the phone to sweet-talk your way into a free dress, but you must have two or three “people” you can put to the task of mooching out the local design scene, no?
Rapp Design’s oversized sunglasses ($440, 788 College, 416-537-6590, rapplimited.com) deliver that haute Hollywood death stare.
Take our imaginary starlet, Jan Jathaway. Doesn’t she look A-list in this chic Greta Constantine sheath ($735, gretaconstantine.com)? Don’t worry. The label has already glammed up Iman and Nelly Furtado, so its red-carpet-worthiness is tried, tested and true.
Dandi Maestre bracelets (wood and tagua, $150, and red azain seed necklace worn as bracelet, $120, dandimaestre.com) glam up earthy beads and seeds.
A Jessica Jensen ostrich-print envelope clutch ($298, TNT, Hazelton Lanes, 55 Avenue Road, 416-975-1960, shopjessicajensen.com) is perfect for light-packing stars.
Abel Munoz Ipanema sandals ($355, Ron White, Manulife Centre, 55 Bloor West, 416-964-6400, ronwhite.ca) are locally luxe.
